Learned the hard way: don't skip the vapor barrier behind your shower walls

Last month I redid my master bath in Phoenix and thought I could save $40 by leaving out the vapor barrier behind the cement board. Three weeks later I found black mold creeping up the drywall on the other side. Anyone else had moisture problems from cutting corners on waterproofing?

Respectfully disagree, moisture behind cement board is usually fine in dry climates like Phoenix.

And what about the insulation getting moldy behind that wet board
