I finally tried building a raised garden bed last weekend and it was a disaster

I spent $60 on pressure treated wood and screws, measured everything three times, then realized I'd cut two of the side boards 6 inches too short because I read the plan wrong. Has anyone else had a simple DIY project just spiral into frustration for no good reason?

Nothing like paying for the privilege of building firewood.

Up here in northern Wisconsin, a permit to cut firewood on county land costs $25. That's on top of the gas and time you spend driving out there, cutting it, and hauling it home. I get that the county needs to manage the resource, but it feels like a money grab when you're doing all the hard work. My neighbor got ticketed last winter because his permit said one zone but he was cutting in another zone three miles away. The whole system is made to nickel and dime people who are just trying to stay warm. Just let us grab the deadfall without making it so complicated.
