Vent: A family reunion photo tag in Cincinnati made me delete my social media
My aunt posted a group picture from a reunion last summer and tagged everyone, including me. I didn't even know she had an account. Suddenly, a facial recognition site I'd never heard of, PimEyes, had my face linked to my full name and that photo. I found it by searching my own image on a whim. It felt like a total invasion. I spent the next two days scrubbing my profiles and asking family to untag me. Has anyone else had a close relative accidentally expose their data like this? What did you do?

My cousin did the exact same thing with a beach photo from my vacation. She tagged me in it on some random app I don't even use, and a week later I got a friend request from a complete stranger who knew my name and where I worked. It was so creepy. I had to make my entire online presence private and explain internet safety to my whole family. How do you even begin to explain this stuff to people who don't get it?

Ugh but honestly people share way too much anyway. If you're posting vacation pics online you're basically asking for attention, right? Can't get mad when someone actually notices.

Totally get that creepy feeling, finding your face on a site you never signed up for. My mom tagged me in a church directory photo that popped up on some background check site. Had to have a long talk with her about what "public" really means online. How do you even begin to lock everything down after that?
