My mom asked why I use a VPN, and I froze for a second
She caught me off guard last week during a family dinner in Phoenix. I gave some rambling answer about wifi security, but honestly it made me realize I've been hiding my setup instead of actually explaining it. Anyone else struggle to talk about this stuff with relatives without sounding paranoid?

Did you try comparing it to something she already gets, like locking your doors or checking your bank app? That worked with my dad, once I said it's just a digital version of not leaving your mail sitting out. He still jokes about it, but at least the questions turned into conversations instead of side eyes.
