Had a talk with my neighbor that made me rethink my whole smart home setup

Mike across the street works in IT security and he told me last weekend that my wifi light bulbs are basically broadcasting my sleep schedule to anyone with a cheap scanner. He pulled out his phone and showed me how easy it is to see when devices ping the network. Now I'm sitting here with 8 smart bulbs I paid $120 for and wondering if I should swap them for dumb ones. Has anyone else actually made the switch back to regular switches?

My buddy switched back after his smart plug started randomly turning his coffee maker on at 3 AM.

Oh man, that's the kind of stuff that makes you wonder who's really in charge. It's like we're so quick to trust an app with basic stuff like turning lights on, but then something glitches and you end up with a surprise 3 AM coffee. I've noticed a bigger pattern where people seem to think tech is foolproof until it does something totally random. Like my neighbor's thermostat went haywire and kept his house at 85 degrees in the middle of summer because of a firmware update. Makes you wonder if the convenience is worth the potential headache, right?
