Serious question, why does everyone push coworking spaces so hard?

I tried one in Medellin for 3 weeks and got way less work done than at a cafe because everyone wanted to network every 10 minutes lol. Did anyone else find them more distracting than helpful, or am I just antisocial?

Read a study once that said coworking spaces work best for people who are already set in their routines, not for people trying to find focus. Think @brooke475 nailed it with the "adult recess" thing. I spent a whole morning at one in Austin where this guy kept interrupting my coding to show me his "disruptive" sock subscription box. Like, I just wanted to finish my spreadsheet, not invest in ankle wear. Ended up moving to a library where the only person who talked to me was a librarian shushing me.

Oh man, the library is a solid backup plan but you gotta pick the right one. My local branch has this weird thing where the "quiet study" room is right next to the children's storytime area. Nothing kills your spreadsheet flow like hearing "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" through the wall for the third time. But I think the real issue nobody talks about with coworking spaces is the noise level is totally unpredictable. Some days you get sock subscription guy, other days you get a silent room full of people who treat eye contact like a crime. It's a crapshoot.

Coworking spaces are basically adult recess where everyone's trying to sell you something between bites of a granola bar... I'd rather be antisocial and actually finish my work than pretend to be best friends with a digital nomad who owns three laptops. Cafe coffee may cost more but at least nobody expects a handshake and a pitch with every refill.
