That $80 brush pack on sale taught me a hard lesson

I grabbed a 40 piece brush bundle during a flash sale last Tuesday, thinking I was getting a steal for my portrait work. Turns out half the bristles shed like crazy and the ones that survived made my colors look muddy, so I just wasted a whole evening redoing one canvas. Has anyone else found a budget brush set that actually holds up, or should I just eat the cost and buy singles from an art store?
