Heard a shop foreman in Phoenix talk about DEF filter changes

Honestly, he said a lot of guys are just going by the dash light for the diesel exhaust fluid filter, but the manual for a 2020 Duramax says to check it every oil change. He saw a truck come in with the filter totally clogged at 15,000 miles because the light never came on. Tbh, that's a quick way to get a big repair bill for the dosing system. Has anyone else started checking the DEF filter way before the light tells you to?

Yeah, that's a rough lesson to learn the hard way.

Nah, that's just wasting time for no reason.

Man, that's a classic. I've pulled filters that were solid with crystals because the light never tripped. On those newer diesels, I check the DEF filter every single service, no matter what the dash says. It takes two minutes and can save you a couple grand on a new pump and injector.
