My buddy learned that lesson the hard way when he cracked a line on his Duramax. That click is a lifesaver.

The Ford service manual for my 2015 says 18 foot-pounds plus the extra quarter turn.

Actually, that click is the torque-to-yield spec. You're not supposed to go past it. The old timer was right, but for a different reason. Overtightening stretches the line and can cause a way worse leak later. It feels wrong if you're used to cranking on things, but that click is the final word.
