Just realized the security scanner I ignored for 3 weeks flagged a real problem on a Tuesday
I set up a dependency scanner in our CI pipeline back in March and it kept throwing warnings about a logging library, so I muted the alerts to focus on a release deadline. Three weeks later a coworker ran the same tool on his laptop and found the exact version we shipped had a known flaw that let someone read our env vars. How do you all decide which scanner warnings are noise and which ones you actually stop and fix?
The key move is to check whether the flagged package is in your actual runtime path, not just sitting somewhere in the dep tree. If that logging library was loading env vars at startup like most of them do, that warning was never noise, it was the one you couldn't afford to skip. A good rule is to triage by reachability first and give anything touching secrets or auth a hard stop until someone looks at it.
