HVAC guy botched my commercial AC install in Detroit last June

I run a small bakery on Michigan Avenue and paid $3,200 for a new rooftop unit install back in June. The guy didn't seal the duct connections right and hot air leaked in all summer. I had to call another company to redo the whole thing and lost two days of business. Has anyone else had trouble finding reliable commercial HVAC crews around here?

Yeah that "didn't seal the duct connections right" part hit home. I see this all the time with guys who think commercial work is the same as residential but it's not. The rooftop units vibrate way more than a furnace in a basement so those joints need to be sealed with proper mastic and sometimes even gaskets if it's a curb mount. A lot of HVAC guys skip that step to save time and then you're paying for it all summer. Next time you need work done ask them specifically how they plan to seal the duct connections and if they give you a vague answer walk away. Also check if they're actually licensed for commercial work in Detroit not just a general contractor who does HVAC on the side.

Mastic just cracks and peels off with that much vibration anyway...

Ask about their vibration isolation curbs too. Most skip those entirely.
