Hot take: That "emergency" HVAC repair we paid $1,200 for last winter was a total scam
Our commercial unit was blowing cold air in February and the guy from Ace Services swapped a $30 capacitor for $1,200 claiming it was a major compressor fix. Has anyone else had a contractor completely invent a problem like that?

Totally feel your pain on this one, I got burned the SAME way a couple summers ago with a fridge repair. @shane751 your grandfather knew what he was talking about, that's EXACTLY the lesson I had to learn the hard way too. These guys come in, see a stressed out homeowner, and just MAKE UP a huge problem because they know you'll pay anything to get the heat or cold back. It's disgusting how common this is, especially with those emergency calls where you have no time to shop around.

My grandfather used to say the only thing more expensive than a repairman is trusting the first one who shows up. Guess I learned that lesson the hard way too.
