PSA: My old habit of grabbing plastic bottles is clashing with my new reusable one.

Back in college, I always had a disposable water bottle in my bag. Now I try to use a reusable one, but I forget it half the time and feel guilty buying plastic. Should I get a few extra reusable bottles to stash in my car and office, or is that just creating more stuff?

Your 'creating more stuff' concern shows how trying to be green means buying more things.

I read a study from the University of Michigan about this last month. It showed that buying green products often leads to more waste because people keep the old items too. Like someone gets a new compost bin but tosses the plastic one instead of reusing it. That just makes more stuff to deal with later. The push to be eco-friendly can turn into another reason to shop, which is backwards. Real change means buying less, not swapping one purchase for another.
