Just realized I was storing my apples wrong for months
I used to toss all my apples in the fruit bowl on the counter. Then last week, after about 4 days, half of them got soft and mealy. I looked it up and found out apples give off gas that ruins other fruits nearby. Now I keep them in the fridge drawer separate and they stay crisp for like 2 weeks. Has anyone else had their whole fruit bowl go bad way too fast because of this?

Learned this one the hard way too. It's like how you figure out that putting warm leftovers straight in the fridge just steams everything else in there, or that you're supposed to let cast iron cool down before washing it. Little rules nobody tells you until you mess it up a few times.

What's the one kitchen rule you still break because it doesn't seem to matter that much? I've been cooking for 20 years and I still put warm stuff in the fridge sometimes, nothing bad has happened yet. The cast iron thing I learned the hard way though, cracked my first pan like an idiot. But some of these "rules" feel more like old wives tales than actual science, you know?
