Skipping security patches felt harmless until my email got compromised. Now I schedule updates like clockwork.

Ugh, my buddy learned this the hard way too. He kept putting off some system update on his laptop for months. Then his crypto wallet got cleaned out. Turns out there was a keylogger hiding in some old software. Cost him thousands. He does automatic updates for everything now.

Automatic updates can sometimes break things in ways people don't expect. I've seen folks get locked out of important old programs because an update changed how they work with the system. It creates this weird choice between being open to new holes or breaking your own workflow. The real trick is staying informed on what the updates actually fix, not just blindly turning them all on.

Thousands of dollars gone from a crypto wallet is just brutal. That's the kind of story that makes me second guess everything. I get why people delay updates for compatibility, but the security risk is so real. It feels like you're always choosing the lesser of two evils. My system is set to auto update but I still get nervous every time it restarts.
