I bought a 'lifetime' VPN subscription for $200 and it was gone in a year

The company just folded and their website vanished, so I was out the cash and had to scramble to find a new service. Has anyone else had a 'too good to be true' security purchase blow up on them?

Lifetime subscriptions are a total scam in the tech world. The company has zero reason to keep the lights on after they get your cash. You're basically betting they'll stay in business forever, which never happens. Always go with a monthly or yearly plan from a big name you trust.

Remember when those lifetime deals felt like finding free money? I bought into a few early on, thinking I was the smart one locking in a price. Every single one of them either shut down or got so bad it wasn't worth using anymore. Now I see it exactly like you do, it's just a bet on a company staying alive, and the house always wins. I stick with the big guys on a yearly plan now, it's cheaper than paying for nothing.

Wait, they charged you two hundred bucks for that? That's a crazy amount to lose.
