At a family cookout, I saw my uncle writing his passwords on a sticky note next to the fridge. Had to have that awkward chat.

Trying to explain tech stuff to older family members can be a real headache. What if someone visits and sees that note? A repair person or a friend's kid could easily grab it. My aunt used to keep her bank PIN on a scrap paper by the phone. Having that talk is awkward, but it's way better than their stuff getting stolen. Good on you for looking out for him.

Seriously, how bad is it really if it's just at his own house?

Ugh, it's way worse than you'd think. Burglars look for exactly that kind of lazy info. A sticky note is like a welcome sign for them. Plus, repair people, cleaners, or even a friend's sketchy partner comes over all the time. It takes one person seeing it and telling the wrong guy. My cousin's neighbor got cleaned out because the dog walker saw a wifi password and guessed the rest. It's just not worth the risk.
