My best writing week ever got ruined by a single text message

Last week, I finally hit a groove and wrote over 2,000 words a day for five days straight on my fantasy novel. I had the whole outline for the next three chapters mapped out on my whiteboard. Then, on Friday, my friend texted me a link to a new video game trailer saying 'this is exactly your book's plot.' I watched it, and he was completely right. Now my whole project feels pointless and I can't look at my notes. Has a prompt or idea ever been totally stolen by something that just came out?

Man, that's the worst feeling (been there). Finish your version anyway because your voice is what makes it different.

My first screenplay was basically the plot of the movie "Moonfall" but with sentient toasters. I found out two weeks before I was gonna pitch it. The worst part is their disaster movie was probably better than my kitchen appliance version.
