I used to stare at a blank page for hours before writing a single word

My old method was just sitting and waiting for a full story idea to hit me, which meant I'd often write nothing. About six months ago, I switched to using a simple prompt jar with 100 basic situations, like 'a character finds a key taped under their desk'. Now I pull one and just write for 20 minutes, no pressure. It's not about finishing a story, it's about getting words down. That one shift got me from maybe 200 words a week to over a thousand. Does anyone else use a similar trick to beat writer's block?

Totally get that! My friend does timed writing sprints with random objects from around her house.

My buddy tried something like that. He started writing about his toaster for ten minutes every morning. Ended up with a weird horror script about sentient appliances.
