I chose a 2-ton chain hoist over a lever hoist for a tight lift in a boiler room

The space was so cramped I couldn't get a good swing with the lever. The chain gave me way more control to inch a pump into place without banging the pipes. Anyone have a go-to tool for lifts where you have maybe six inches of swing room?

I mean, it's just a pump, not a heart transplant. A couple of dings on the pipes probably won't hurt anything. Feels like we're overthinking a simple lift.

Seen a pump fail because someone dropped it just a few feet off a pallet. The housing cracked and leaked fluid everywhere. Honestly, it's not about the dings you can see, it's about stressing the seals or internal parts. That kind of damage might not show up until it's under full pressure on the job. Then you're stuck with a broken pump and a bigger delay than if you just rigged it right the first time.

Yeah, chain hoists are the only way in those spots. Sometimes I'll even use a come-along if I need to pull from a weird angle.
