Got a stubborn load to settle on a windy day in Denver

The wind kept pushing a 40-foot steel beam off its marks, so I tried a trick an old operator showed me: I swung the boom a bit past the spot, then let the wind push it back into place. It worked like a charm on the first try! Has anyone else used the wind to help with a tricky placement?

Ever try that trick with a bundle of trusses?

That "trick" assumes you have perfect ground conditions and a brand new bundle. Most of us are dealing with older stock that's been sitting outside. The wrap is half torn, the wood's taken on moisture, and the whole bundle has settled into a weird curve. Trying to lift it from the middle then is a good way to watch the whole thing fold.
