Pro tip: I bought a cheap drone for site surveys and it cost me a full day of work.

I got a $300 drone to try and map a small grading job near Tacoma, but the camera quality was so bad the images were useless for measurements. I had to redo the whole survey on foot, which set us back about eight hours. Has anyone found a decent budget drone that actually works for this stuff?

Man, a whole day? That seems like a major overreaction. It's a three hundred dollar toy, what did you expect, survey grade data? You gotta know the tool's limits before you bet your whole schedule on it.

Ever think about how much time costs more than the tool itself? Like if you're a contractor and you lose a whole day because the data was off, that's a missed job and a pissed off client. Ivan_craig is right about knowing limits, but sometimes you don't find the limit until you're already over the edge. It's not just the three hundred bucks, it's the three hundred bucks plus a day of your life you can't get back.

What software were you trying to use with it?
