Heard a contractor bragging about skipping control joints today...
Was grabbing lunch at a diner near a job site in Phoenix and overheard this guy telling his buddy he doesn't bother with control joints on big slabs because "the mix is good enough." Took everything I had not to walk over and say something. We all know that's a recipe for random cracks showing up within 6 months, especially with that desert heat. I wonder how many homeowners are gonna be stuck with a mess because someone cut corners. Has anyone else run into crews pulling stuff like that lately?

The mix is good enough" yeah that's the same thing my neighbor said about his patio last spring. Now his driveway looks like a puzzle with all those random cracks running through it. One thing people don't think about is how skipping control joints can mess with the rebar or wire mesh underneath. If the concrete cracks in a weird spot it can expose that steel to moisture and before you know it you've got rust staining and spalling. That's not just an eyesore that's a structural headache down the road.

Oh man I saw the same thing last month on a warehouse pour and they had cracks before the sealer even dried.
