Update: I just blew $200 on a 'professional' thermal paste that made things worse

I saw a fancy thermal paste online that promised a 15-degree drop in CPU temps, so I bought a tube for a client's overheating gaming rig. After applying it and running benchmarks for a week, the CPU actually ran 5 degrees HOTTER than with the basic stuff I usually use. Has anyone else had a brand-new product totally backfire on a repair job?

Ouch, that's the worst feeling. Why do the expensive ones sometimes perform so badly?

Yeah, that "promised a 15-degree drop" thing is such a trap. Reminds me of a time I bought a super expensive non-stick pan for home. Ads said it was indestructible. Stuck an egg on the first use, totally ruined. @the_betty is right about expensive stuff failing hard. Sometimes you pay extra just for the fancy box and big claims. Feels like they bank on people not calling them out.

Wait, did you try cleaning the CPU and heatsink really well before putting the new paste on? Honestly, I had a similar thing happen with a high-end air cooler where the mounting bracket was slightly off, and it pushed the cooler at a little angle. Tbh, it ran hotter than the stock Intel cooler for a week before I realized the pressure wasn't even. Ngl, sometimes these fancy products have tiny design flaws that totally mess up the whole point of using them.
