Hit 500 consecutive days of uptime on a small business server last week
I've been maintaining a file server for a local accounting firm in Cleveland since 2018. Last week I checked the logs and saw it hit 500 days without a single reboot or crash. That surprised me because I built that thing from used parts I found on Craigslist. It's running an old Supermicro board with a Xeon E5 and some mismatched RAM sticks. Has anyone else had a budget build that just refuses to die?

Peeked inside mine last week to dust it out and it literally sighed like an old man waking up from a nap. The heatsink had a layer of dust so thick it looked like a felt blanket. That thing is probably running on pure stubbornness and whatever leftover thermal paste was caked on from 2015. Honestly impressed it hit 500 days without a single hiccup especially with mismatched RAM sticks that are probably fighting each other for dominance. Your Craigslist special is basically the Rocky Balboa of file servers.

Bet half the parts in that thing are held together with zip ties and hope. 500 days of uptime on random Craigslist junk is basically a miracle, the accounting firm should probably buy you a lottery ticket. Just don't touch it, the second you open that case it'll blue screen out of spite.
