Ride-sharing pool was awful until I gave it a 3rd try

I swore off Uber Pool for over a year after getting stuck with someone's smelly takeout in the backseat. But last Tuesday it saved me $11 on a 45 minute trip across Austin, and the driver even let me pick the music since I was the only one who said hi.

Yeah @charlesanderson you're onto something. Drivers are people too and they notice who treats them like a human vs who just stares at their phone. I started asking how their day is going before I even get in and it's crazy how different the rides feel. Last week a driver told me about his side business selling BBQ rubs just because I asked about his playlist. You get way better service when you treat them like a person instead of a steering wheel.

Jeez, wait hold on. He let you pick the music just because you said hi? That's wild. I've taken like 50 pool rides and never once had the driver even acknowledge me beyond a grunt. So you're telling me basic human decency got you the aux cord? That's honestly the most shocking part of the whole story, more than the saved money or the smelly takeout. Maybe I need to start being nicer to my drivers, lol.
