PSA: Stop blocking the bus doors when people are trying to get off
I take the 7 bus downtown every morning and every single day someone stands right in front of the back doors while people are trying to exit. It takes twice as long for everyone to get off and on. Let people off first, then move in. It's basic bus etiquette but nobody seems to get it. I timed it once and it adds about 3 minutes to the whole stop. Has anyone else noticed this getting worse lately?

...and the worst part is they just stare at their phones the whole time, completely oblivious. I had this guy on the 7 last Tuesday, big guy with a backpack, just planted right in front of the back doors. I said "excuse me" three times before he finally looked up like a deer in headlights. Then he had the nerve to huff at me when I squeezed past. It's not just buses either, I saw the same thing on the train last week and someone almost got their foot caught because people were pushing in before anyone got off. Three minutes might not sound like a lot but when you're running late and it happens at every single stop, that adds up fast. Someone needs to put up a sign or something.

oh man @keithbennett you're probably right about the sign thing lol. my friend sarah actually had something similar happen on the 7 last month where this guy with headphones on just stood in the doorway like a statue. she literally had to tap his shoulder and he jumped like she'd tackled him. then he acted all annoyed like she was the rude one. i don't get why people can't just be aware of their surroundings for like two seconds.

...and honestly @wright.jesse, that sign idea wouldn't do squat because the same people who block the doors are the same ones who'd ignore a sign. I've seen it a hundred times on the 7. They're staring at their phones or just zoned out, completely checked out from the world around them. You can say "excuse me" until you're blue in the face and they still don't budge. It's like they think the bus is their personal living room. The three minutes adds up fast when you're trying to get to a job on time. Someone needs to just start gently pushing past and let them deal with it.
