Rant: Explaining commercial roof costs to my cousin at dinner

Commercial roofs might have layers, but do codes really push costs that high? I get what @jesseo53 is saying about hidden stuff, but some rules feel like too much. Prices might just be too high from extra steps that aren't always needed.

Wow, I always just pictured roofs as giant shingles. Hearing about all the hidden layers and codes actually makes the price make sense now.
