My team laughed at my push for solar-ready roofs, but now the client loves the energy savings

Starting with solar-ready roofs from the beginning avoided a huge rework job when the client added panels later.

Actually calling it solar-ready can be a bit of a sales pitch. The real win is just doing the basic prep work during initial construction, like running conduit to the attic and planning the roof layout. Teams often push back on that small added cost upfront. Your story proves them wrong because that prep work turns a huge headache later into a simple job. Glad the client saw the value.

Totally, that basic prep is everything.

My buddy's crew gave him endless grief for stubbing a conduit up through the roof on every new build. They called it his "pipe dream." Fast forward two years, and one of those homeowners decided to go solar. The installers showed up, saw the conduit already there, and had the whole system done in a single day. The homeowner sent my friend a bottle of wine as a thank you. His crew doesn't laugh about it anymore.
