A comic shop in Portland had a 'no phones' signing and it was the best fan event I've been to

This was about three months ago. My local shop, Cosmic Tome, hosted a small artist for a signing but made a rule: phones had to stay in your pocket. You got five minutes of actual talk time while they signed your book. I saw people bringing old issues from their childhood to get stories about, not just snapping pics for social media. The line moved slow, maybe twenty people an hour, but nobody seemed to mind. It felt like how these things used to be, you know? Has any other shop near you tried something like this?

Our shop tried that last year, total game changer.

Curious what the hardest part was to get right at first... we keep talking about making a similar change but the setup seems like a huge headache. Was it just the cost of new gear or did you have to retrain everyone on a totally new system? The long-term payoff sounds worth it but that initial hump is what's stopping us.
