Rant: the diner in Amarillo handed me a French press with coffee that was still bubbling
Stopped at this little diner off Route 66 in Amarillo two weeks ago and ordered a French press. The waitress brings it out and the plunger is already pushed all the way down. I look at it and there's foam still popping on top, like it came out of a pot that was boiling five seconds ago. I asked her how long it sat and she says, oh we press it right when you order, which made zero sense because I ordered it 30 seconds ago. Took one sip and it was straight up bitter and sort of gritty, not smooth at all. I told her I'd rather just have drip and she looked at me like I grew a second head. Has anyone else run into a place that treats a French press like a drip machine and just murders the whole point of it?
Man, this reminds me of a gas station near my parents' place that had a "fresh squeezed" OJ machine, and the oranges in the top were literally covered in fruit flies. I still think about it like once a month. Some places just don't get what they're selling.
