Rant: rinsing your filter with tap water ruins the whole point, my kettle changed my mind

Depends what's in your tap water honestly. If your area has hard water or a ton of chlorine, rinsing your filter just coats it in the exact minerals you're trying to keep out of your coffee. Soft water or a good well and you're probably fine.
