My neighbor told me to just wash out my Ziploc bags and I thought he was crazy until I hit $0 on bag waste last month

Guy named Rick across the street has been cleaning and reusing sandwich bags for like 15 years. I laughed about it behind his back. Then I actually tried it with my own bags. Rinse them, hang them on the dish rack, use them again. Saved about $40 on bags in one month and about 15 of those things from the trash. Has anyone else actually gotten into this habit or am I just being cheap now?

Oh wait have you ever tried flipping them inside out to dry? That was a game changer for me cause the water doesn't get trapped in the corners and they're bone dry in like 2 hours instead of sitting there damp all day. I also started using the really cheap store brand bags for anything messy and saving the name brand ones for like crackers and stuff. The meat thing is a hard pass for me too though, I don't care how much I wash those, the smell lingers and that's just gross. Kinda wild how something so stupidly simple turned into a whole system in my kitchen now.

Have you tried using the little blue drying mats for them? I was skeptical too until I realized how much the water beads up on those mats and they dry way faster than hanging over cups. I started washing out my bags about six months ago and now I can't believe I ever threw them away. It's not just about the money for me honestly, it's how satisfying it is to see that drawer of clean bags ready to go. I will say the ones that had raw meat or strong tomato sauce are a no-go for me though, those I still toss.
