Ditched the climate action app for a paper spreadsheet, no regrets
I tried three different carbon tracking apps for 2 months and they all made me feel guilty without telling me where to start. Last week I switched to a simple notebook and a weekly grid where I log my gas tank fill-ups, electric bill readings, and how often I ride the bus. Seeing the numbers on paper made me realize I was focusing on the wrong stuff, like avoiding plastic straws while my furnace was running inefficiently. I found out my old thermostat was costing me about $90 a month in extra heat, and replacing it was cheaper than any subscription. Has anyone else found that low-tech methods work better than the fancy tools?

Swapped my phone habit for a whiteboard on the fridge and it changed everything. Writing down my electric and gas numbers weekly made the waste obvious, like when I caught my water heater running all night for no reason. Low-tech just cuts through the noise, you see the actual problem instead of a guilt score.
