That old timer's 'grease pencil trick' actually saved my Monday
A retired sweep I met at a supply shop in Columbus told me to mark my flexible rod sections with a grease pencil before pushing them through a tight flue, so I could tell exactly where a blockage was. I wrote it off as old habit, but last week on a 3-story house in Cincinnati it kept me from guessing and pulling the whole line back out. Anyone else use marking tricks like that, or is it just me who ignored the old guys for too long?

That grease pencil trick is solid, but you kinda missed the part where you gotta wipe the rod clean before you push it back through. If you leave those marks on, they'll smear all over the inside of the pipe and make a mess for the next job. Just a heads up from someone who learned that the hard way.
