Caught my niece playing with my old Lite-Brite last night
I stopped by my sister's house after work and there was my 8 year old niece hunched over my old Lite-Brite from the 90s, pegging in those little plastic pieces. I bought it at a garage sale 2 years ago for $5 and just handed it over to her without thinking much. She spent 45 minutes making a rainbow castle without touching a single screen. It made me realize that some toys just hold up because they let kids make their own fun instead of watching it happen. Has anyone else handed down a toy and seen a kid get totally hooked on it?

Oh man, that's awesome. It's funny how the simplest stuff grabs their attention the most, isn't it? My neighbor's kid got handed an old Speak & Spell and now he treats it like his prized possession. Kids today are drowning in screens and flashy toys that basically play themselves. But give them something where they have to actually do the work and provide the imagination, and they light up. It's like we're seeing a whole generation rediscover that the best fun is the kind you make yourself instead of just watching.
