Walk-in cooler door stuck at 2pm on a Saturday, lost 3 hours of prep
Line was dead, tickets stopped, hostess kept poking her head back asking for a table update. I was solo on apps that shift. The walk-in handle sheared right off, pin broke inside the latch. I had a case of duck breast in there for tonight's special and a full rack of ribs I needed to start. No one had a screwdriver on the floor, so I used a butter knife and a pair of needle nose from my knife roll. Took 40 minutes to pop the latch plate off and jimmy the rod. Ended up losing three hours of prep, we sold 11 duck breasts and comped 4 tickets because the wait killed the table turn. Owner still hasn't replaced the handle, just wrapped it in tape. Who else runs a kitchen where the fix is ignored until the whole unit fails again?
