Standing behind a guy buying a single can of beans at the Kroger on 5th last Tuesday

I mean, I couldn't stop wondering if that was his whole dinner or if he was just missing one ingredient for a recipe, and it kinda made me sad, idk, has anyone else had a checkout thought that just stuck with you for days?

You saying it stuck with you for days is so real. Maybe we get stuck because we know we're seeing a tiny piece of someone's whole life, but we'll never get the rest of the story. It's like a movie scene with no context. I keep filling in the blanks myself, and my guess is probably way off from his actual Tuesday. That's the weird part that hangs around.

That "filling in the blanks yourself" part is exactly what hooks you. You're basically writing a whole story about a stranger with zero facts and your brain treats it like a puzzle it has to solve. The weirdest part is knowing whatever you came up with is probably wrong, but you still can't shake it.

But why do we even care about some random guy's Tuesday?
