Am I the only one who got called out for counting items in the express lane?

Last Tuesday at the grocery store, the person behind me in line pointed out I had 13 items in the 10-items-or-less lane. They said, 'It's not a suggestion, it's a rule.' I felt so embarrassed! I used to always push it to 12 or 13, thinking it was close enough. Now I actually count my stuff before I get in line, and if I'm over, I just go to a regular checkout. It's made the wait a little longer sometimes, but I don't get those dirty looks anymore. Has anyone else had a line rule they used to ignore until someone said something?

Oh man, that takes me back. I used to be the absolute worst about the parking lot speed limit signs. You know, the ones that say 5 mph? I'd just coast through at like 15, thinking it didn't really matter since the lot was empty. Then one day this older guy just yelled "It's five!" out his window as I passed him. I was so startled and honestly a little ashamed. Now I creep along like everyone else, and my car is definitely quieter. It's funny how one comment can totally change a habit.

Actually the signs are usually 10 mph in my area. I guess it depends on the lot.
