Hot take: I chose a 5/8 inch nap pad for a high traffic office job and it was a huge mistake.
The customer in Tampa wanted a plush feel, so I went against my gut and used the thicker pad instead of my usual 3/8 inch for commercial spaces. After six months, the seams are already showing wear and the carpet looks wavy in spots. Anyone else had a pad choice totally backfire on a job?

Ugh, that's the worst feeling... trusting a client's request over your own experience.

Been there. I learned to show them my reasoning, not just tell them it's wrong.

Yeah, 100%. I think showing the reasoning is the only way that actually sticks with people long term. If you just say "that's wrong" without explaining why, it comes off like you're being difficult or just have a different opinion for no reason. Clients especially need to see the path, you know? Like, here's the problem with what you're asking for, here's what will happen if we do it your way, and here's a better option that still gets you what you actually want. It takes more time upfront, but it saves so many headaches down the road. And honestly, it builds trust way more than just being right ever does.
