TIL using a cheap speed square for 5 years made me sloppy

I picked up a nice aluminum speed square at a garage sale for three bucks last weekend and finally got why my cuts were always off by a hair. The old plastic one had warped just enough from sitting in the sun that my 45s were actually 44.7 degrees without me knowing. Anyone else ever find a worn-out tool that was secretly sabotaging their work for ages?

Swapped out a tape measure once that was stretching a quarter inch every six feet.

Man, that's rough. A quarter inch over six feet is wild, I've never seen a tape stretch like that. I'd be triple checking everything after that swap.
