That $90 digital angle finder I bought last month was a complete waste
Picked up a digital angle finder from Home Depot in Cleveland for a roof rafter job. Thing kept losing calibration every time I bumped it against my belt. Spent more time resetting the zero than actually cutting. Went back to my old Swanson speed square and finished the whole roof line in 2 hours. Has anyone else had bad luck with those electronic angle finders on actual job sites?

Nah, I've had great luck with mine even after a few drops on the jobsite...

My uncle bought that same angle finder for a siding job in Toledo and had the exact same issue. He dropped it once off a ladder and it never even turned on again. Honestly, I don't get the hype over these things. A speed square has been working fine for decades and costs like 10 bucks. Maybe if you're doing some super precise cabinet work in a clean shop it's worth it, but on a roof with dust and bumps? Overkill for sure.

Yeah the "dropped it once and it never turned on" part says it all. Those digital tools are just too fragile for real job site abuse. A speed square might not give you a fancy digital readout but at least it still works after you knock it off a ladder.
