Heard a young apprentice call a framing square a 'speed square' the other day
I was at the lumber yard in Tacoma and this kid, maybe 19, was asking where to find one. The older guy behind the counter just looked at him for a second and said, 'You mean a framing square? A speed square is the little triangle.' It made me think about how the basic tool names are getting lost. When I started 25 years ago, you learned the proper name for every tool in your belt on day one. Now with all the quick video tips online, I guess the specifics get blurred. Does anyone else run into this with the newer guys on site?

Yeah, that's just how it goes now.

But that's the thing, it doesn't have to be. We just got used to accepting it. Look at how many people are pushing back on subscription fees for everything, or how some companies are actually bringing back simpler, one-time purchase options because customers demanded it. Change happens when we stop saying "that's just how it is.

Oh man, my buddy had a greenhorn ask for a crescent wrench... he meant an adjustable.
