Why did no one tell me you can negotiate your starting salary? Found out 4 years too late
I was at a work happy hour last month and a new hire mentioned they got an extra $5k just by asking. I had never even thought about negotiating when I started. My dumb self just took the first number they offered. Has anyone else only realized this stuff way after the fact?

Negotiating might sound good on paper, but it can backfire too... you ask for more and suddenly they're looking at you sideways or pulling the offer. Better to just take what they give and prove yourself, that's worked for tons of people I know.
