Warning: that dream job turned into a nightmare in 72 hours
I started a new sales job at a marketing firm in Austin last month. Day one was great. Nice desk, free snacks, friendly HR lady. Day two they handed me a script 40 pages long. I had to memorize product specs for 12 different software tools. Day three my manager told me I needed to make 80 cold calls by noon or I'd be on probation. I asked for a headset and they gave me a broken one. People kept hanging up on me because my voice cut out. I quit on Friday. My question is - has anyone else walked away from a job that misled you in the interview about what the actual work would be?

That 40-page script sounds brutal, I once had a job where they didn't tell me I'd be in a windowless basement until after I accepted the offer.

Ugh, that's rough. But heads up, I think you meant 80 cold calls by noon - that's a lot, but it's actually doable with a working headset and a clear connection. Still doesn't excuse bait-and-switch interviews though, have you checked out job boards that let you see reviews from past employees?
