Showerthought: I froze up during a shift handoff and my boss saw the whole thing
Two weeks ago I was handing off a big shipment at the warehouse in Reno and I completely blanked on the count when my boss walked up, so I just started over from the top instead of guessing. It took an extra 20 minutes but the numbers lined up, and later he told me he liked that I didn't fake it. I used to think admitting you lost your place made you look bad, but it saved me from a wrong count that would have messed up the whole order. Has anyone else had a moment where slowing down and starting over beat trying to look like you had it all together?
Guessing the count would've turned that extra 20 minutes into an extra 20 hours of fixing the order later. Starting over mid-panic is just you doing math with a live audience.
