My old supervisor's 20 minute rule finally clicked after 4 jobs
Back in 2017 my first boss in Cleveland told me to spend 20 minutes on any task before asking for help, I thought it was just him being cheap with training time. Tried it again this week on a spreadsheet I kept messing up and actually solved it myself, has anyone else had advice that only made sense way later?

...my buddy Dave had a boss who made him log every single email he sent for two weeks. Drove him insane at the time, kept bitching about it. Then he got into management himself and realized his boss was basically teaching him how to cover his own ass when things went sideways. He still keeps that habit, just does it in his head now. Funny how stuff like that circles back on you.

Dave probably still curses that boss sometimes, even while doing the same thing. Paper trails save you when the blame starts flying. It's a pain, but the habit sticks for a reason.
