Shoutout to the dispatcher in Reno who saved my move, but should I have just gone with the cheapest quote?
So last month I had to ship my 2015 Tacoma from Sacramento to Denver and got quotes ranging from $850 to $1,400. I went with the $850 broker, and after my pickup window came and went twice with no call, I called a dispatcher in Reno at 9pm who found me a carrier in 20 minutes for $1,050. I paid $200 more but got my truck in 3 days instead of stressing for a week. Now I'm wondering if that cheap broker would have eventually pulled through, or if I just got lucky with the Reno guy. What do you all do, chase the lowest bid or pay up for someone who actually answers the phone?
Being a broker means they just find a carrier for you, so that Reno dispatcher was doing the same job the cheap guy was supposed to do. You didn't get lucky, you just finally got someone who actually did their job.
