I called those "save our show" petition sites useless, then a fan in Topeka mailed me 6 pages of letters
When Jericho got axed back in 2008 I figured those online petitions were just yelling into the void. A lady from Topeka found my email in a fan forum and offered to send me her stack of handwritten letters to CBS, all 6 pages of them, so I could add mine. I mailed them off mostly to shut her up, honestly, and a few weeks later the network announced a second season. I still don't get how a pile of paper did what a million clicks couldn't. Has anyone here tried a letter campaign for a show and actually gotten a reply from the network?
A pile of paper did what a million clicks couldn't" is the part that gets me, because I bet the suits know a single envelope costs you a stamp and a trip to the post office while a click costs nothing. What did those 6 pages actually say, just "please don't cancel us" repeated, or did she get specific about storylines and character arcs? If the letters had real detail in them, that might be the whole trick, because it proves someone cares enough to sit down and write it out.
