Warning: That $20 discount camp stove from the gas station nearly lit my tent on fire last weekend
I figured it would be junk but it seemed fine for the first two burgers until the regulator started hissing and a jet of flame shot out sideways, has anyone else had a scary moment with cheap gear that convinced you to never skimp again?

I used to be the kind of guy who'd grab the cheapest camp stove at the sporting goods store and call it a day, thinking "how bad could it be?" lol. But yeah, I had a similar scare with a super cheap lantern that started melting its own plastic base after an hour. That was enough for me to learn that saving twenty bucks isn't worth a tent fire or a melted face.

Do you think the really budget gear is actually more dangerous because it gives people a false sense of security, like they think they're being "smart" with money but ignoring the real risks?
